Climate
Philippines have a tropical weather, influenced by monsoon. Wet season is from May to November. During this time of the year rainfall can exceed 7 inches per month. The rest of the year is characterized by dry and sunny weather.
Steady temperatures are a characteristic of tropical weather: hotter months coincide with the rainy season with highs exceeding 90F. Lows are registered during the month of February with temperatures around 80F.
How to get there
Daily international flights connect the main cities of the US to Manila, the capital city. Direct flights Los Angeles-Manila take approximately 15 hours. On average flying from other parts of the US takes up to 22 hours including stops.
Once in Manila there are two alternatives: flying to Puerto Princesa, the main city in Palawan (flight duration 1h), and then taking a minivan to El Nido o Sibaltan (4hrs drive); alternatively take a slightly longer flight from Manila to El Nido. The first option is cheaper and easier to arrange even on a short notice; the second option saves travel time but needs to be organized in advance as the flights connecting Manila and El Nido are infrequent.
Where to stay
Sibaltan is a destination still little known to western tourists and it's the ideal place for who is looking to experience the life of the locals. From there it's easy to explore the area renting a moped or enjoying one of the excursions offered by the accommodation.
El Nido is a busier destination with many more amenities. The best beaches of Palawan are nearby as well as bars and restaurants attended by tourists from all over the world.
We recommend a week time to visit one of the two destinations. If you want to extend your stay we suggest to add a visit to Bali, Gili Islands or Coron.
