Climate
The islands are visited year long. A wet season runs from June to November with frequent but quick showers and thunderstorms. Despite being subjected to tropical weather, the archipelago lies outside of the range of action of hurricanes.
Temperatures are constant throughout the year. The hottest months are September and October with highs above 90F, the coldest February and March with temperature just below 80F.
How to get there
It is necessary to spend at least one night in Panama City before arriving to the San Blas because the transfer between Panama City and Carti aboard 4x4 cars depart very early in the morning (duration about 4hrs).
Carti is the departure point for the taxi boats that connect to the San Blas islands of the Kuna Yala autonomous indigenous area, usually with a 30 minutes ride.
Where to stay
About twenty islands are not used as villages by the Kunas and they are instead resorts for tourists, simple cabins with basic accommodations, sometimes on stilt above the clear waters. As ruled by their government only Kunas are allowed to run tourist businesses, prepare meals and organize excursions, to preserve the autonomy and the traditions of this population.
Alternatively it is possible to stay aboard sailboats or catamarans with skipper that offer charters in the archipelago. They offer cruises that visit more than one island and different anchorages.
